Athlete Interview

Someone you look up to; athlete, coach, family etc. and why?

Jada Wooten - She cheered for Trinity Valley College and was on the show “Cheer” on Netflix. I look up to her because they show what a hard worker she is in cheer and what a good leader she is. Their team was the underdog, but her last year they won NCA.

If you could give one piece of advice to younger athletes, what would it be?

To always trust/believe in yourself and your team.

Do you have any odd pre-game rituals?

Praying with my teammates before we compete.

Are you more confident at Home or Away games and why?

I’m more confident at home games because I know my friends are watching/supporting me, It’s fun getting to show what we've been working on to our school/ friends & family.

What are your short-term and long-term aspirations?

Short term id like to get stronger in my tumbling/ stunting, and get higher level skills. Long term, my goal is to cheer in college and win college nationals.

How do you handle pressure during a critical game or performance?

I think pressure makes me perform better because I know all the hours and hard work my teammates and I put in at practice is showcased in the 2 minutes we get on the mat at competition.

What does teamwork mean to you, and share a meaningful leadership moment.

Teamwork to me is all about supporting each other. I think reassuring your team that you trust them and believe in them can help everyones confidence and makes everyone want to work harder/do their best.

What would you say are your greatest strengths and weaknesses as an athlete?

My biggest weakness would probably standing tumbling, but it’s a work in progress!

My greatest strength as an athlete is my work ethic. When I have a goal, I work hard to reach it.

How do you manage you athletic responsibilities with academics & personal commitments?

Keeping my grades up to keep me eligible for cheer is a big part of it. My personal commitments are all shaped around cheer because its my main priority (after school of course)

How do you handle constructive criticism & feedback from coaching staff?

Constructive criticism means a lot to me because if I'm not getting corrections on the things I'm doing wrong I wont get any better. I also know not to take it in a hurtful way because its apart of the coaches job to tell us when we need to fix something.

What has been a big success moment so far, and how do you remember it making you feel?

In cheerleading, my biggest success moment was making varsity my winter season freshmen year. I started cheer fall of my freshmen year and made jv at first, Reaching my goal of making varsity showed me that hard work does pay off.

An interesting fact about me is...

I love the ocean and sharks are my favorite animal.
