My dad! He’s the reason I got into tennis to begin with, and the reason I’m at the level I’m at. He’s just an amazing person and I always strive to be more like him.
You really can do whatever you want to do and reach whatever goals you set as long as your willing to put in the time and effort.
I have a really small beaded ring that my friend made me, and now I refuse to play without it on. I basically live in this ring.
I feel more confident at home since it’s where I practice and where I feel comfortable. But, an away win always feels better since you’re beating someone on their home court.
Short term is to stay in the top of six of the ladder this year and next. Long term would be to play in college, although I’m not entirely sure if that’s what I want out of my college career.
I try not to think about it too much in the moment. I play like I’ve played the rest of the game and try not to add more pressure to myself. But if I really need to, I try to play safer, and to let my opponent make their own mistakes.
For an individual sport like tennis, teamwork means supporting each other at matches and helping each other in practices.
My greatest weakness is probably that I show my all emotions, good or bad. If I’ve had a bad match you’ll know from my face. And I would say my greatest strength is consistency. I may not be the most skilled player but I’m reliable in my skills and game play.
I make sure to set aside specific time for everything. When I’m at practices, games, or working out that’s my sole focus. When I’m doing homework or assignments, that is what I’m focused on. I try not to let myself get distracted by other things.
I always try and apply feedback immediately. If I can’t, then that’s what I need to work on next practice. Critiques and feedback are how I improve and learn.
Last year, my sophomore year, I was number five on the ladder, which was already super exciting. Then after my last match I realized that the entire season I had only lost once. I felt so proud of myself, and my work had paid off.
I’ve only been playing tennis competitively since freshman year (this season will be my third). But I learned how to play originally during COVID from my dad. Between fifth grade and 8th grade I rarely played and never took it seriously, but freshman year it seemed like a new challenge to try. I’ve also never taken a lesson. Everything I learned about tennis came strictly from my dad (who never played competitively, only for fun) and then from my coaches once I started playing for Pinkerton. I’m not against taking lessons, I just haven’t taken any yet and what I’ve been doing has worked for me.
